Right before being blinded by Eridan, after Aradiabot exploded. If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: N/A
Personality:
Despite not being one of the most featured characters in Homestuck, Sollux shows a very tri-dimensional characterization and an interesting personality.
Living knowing you're going to die soon (and on top of that, going blind before kicking the bucket) affects a person quite deeply, especially when the voices that tell you so won't leave you alone. Meet Sollux Captor, a 6 sweep (13 year old for reference) old troll with mustard blood, self proclaimed computer genius and hacker with a peculiar fascination for duality, and a lisp.
His interests include computers, computer games, coding, apiculture (to produce honey to feed his
lusus, the alternian equivalent of a guardian), and beating himself up over trivial things. Like the apparent coolkid he seems to project, he enjoys his metaphors (some of which make close to no sense, and include saucy maids) and will take every chance to present one to whoever he is speaking to.
Being based off the Gemini sign, much of Sollux's character centers around duality, be it the way he types (he replaces his "s" with "2", types double "i"s, which, in roman numbers, represents two, and makes puns with "two", for example, typing "two" instead of "to", "iintwo", instead of "into" and so on), the kind of puns he makes, and even the color of his eyes, because, you see, he was born a mutant with vision twofold.
His mutation, beyond giving him visions, also granted him psychic powers, which are the reason as to why he chooses not to use a weapon. Of course, a Rose is not without its thorn, and this mutation, albeit seemingly nice, also gives Sollux the power to listen to Voices, voices belonging to the imminently deceased who have plagued him his whole life. Being subject to these for as long as he has lived has made him a quite cranky individual, with constant bipolar mood swings (obeying his duality complex) that are often uncalled for, and a sensitive nature to boot.
As a member of the troll race, Sollux is placed in the
hemospectrum, and at quite a low position at that, standing in the third lowest rung. He doesn't actually care about the system to the point of calling it "confusing" and not knowing which colors of blood are below his own. More physical characteristics of this race include candy corn colored horns (most trolls usually have two, whereas Sollux has four, once again refering his duality theme) grey skin, and in his unique case, red and blue eyes, which, in the case of a regular troll, are usually yellow.
Like most main characters in homestuck, he plays
sburb (or sgrub, which is what he named it), a game entailing the destruction of planets and the birth of universes. The players must enter their game sessions as fast as they can, or face death looming from above in the form of meteors, which are sent by the game itself. The session is held in the
incipisphere (which is sometimes referred to as The Medium), and each player involved is given both a title, or mythological role, and a planet.
He plays it with 12 teammates, organized into two teams of six, the red and the blue team. Having adapted the game from some old technology Aradia brought him from ancient ruins related to the game, he was meant to lead the blue team, however that didn't quite work out due to extense shenanigans, and he was put to sleep by Aradia before he could enter, to facilitate a series of important dreams that would prove critical to their success. This would, however, also facilitate his death, as the trolls had another threat to their lives beyond the meteors: The vast glub, which is a soul piercing psychic screech that Feferi's lusus lets out before its death, and unfortunately, right before Sollux could enter, which resulted in a
hideous, painful demise. Despite dying a gruesome and terrible death, he still managed to enter, and was resurrected by Feferi Peixes, the Witch of Life.
How, you ask? You see, each player has a dreamself, which they incarnate whenever they fall asleep after waking up in their
respective moon. However, Sollux is a rather unique case, and posessed two dreamselves, one on each moon. Each dreamself can also be used as a sort of back up life for a player, which can be triggered by kissing the player's dead corpse, as shown
here. This marks the beginning of the relationship between Sollux and Feferi, who later on become very close to each other.
His planet in the Medium is the Land of Brains and Fire, and his title is the Mage of Doom. There is no confirmation as to what abilities this title grants him, but it does fit with his general character, who is a doomsayer.
Their session eventually comes to an end in apparent success: they defeat the black king and are about to claim their Ultimate Reward, as seen
here, but their plans are foiled as an "indestructible demon" named Jack Noir comes and destroys the gateway, forcing them to retreat to The Veil, an asteroid belt surrounding their session, where they hide away awaiting their eventual death.
His relationships with other characters are quite odd, as the way he directs himself at another person widely depends on who he is speaking to. When speaking to Karkat Vantas, a moody troll who is perpetually angry and flipping his shits at everything, and is his best bro (although he would never admit it), he is usually rude and provocatory, inciting arguments so immature that in the end, they both agree to erase the chatlog from their computers. An exerpt from said chat is as follows:
CG: I KNEW YOU WERE A CHEATER LOWLIFE FUCKING SCUMBAG WITH NO SCRUPLES OR SELF ESTEEM AND WERE BASICALLY WORTHLESS ON EVERY LEVEL, BUT SOMEHOW I'M STILL DISAPPOINTED IN YOU. TA: yeah ii am 2uch an iidiiot for not rewardiing your bubbly per2onaliity and iimpeccable people 2kiill2 wiith a leader2hiip giig.
TA: what an iincon2iiderate knuckle2ponged a22hole ii have been. CG: I AM A HATCHED LEADER AND YOU KNOW IT. TA: ii know your fiilthy 2eedflap ii2 flutteriing iin the profane breeze that2 2hootiing out your 2tiinkiing meal tunnel.
TA: ii do know that much.CG: HOW DO YOU GET OUT OF YOUR COCOON IN THE MORNING KNOWING YOU'RE THE WORST THING A UNIVERSE WAS EVER RESPONSIBLE FOR?
CG: ALSO IT MUST BE HARD WITH YOUR HANDS TO PERSISTENTLY BOTHERING EVERY MUTATED SET OF GENITALS PEPPERING THAT GHASTLY HUSK YOU PAWN OFF AS A BODY.
CG: HAS A FEMALE EVER LOOKED AT YOU WITHOUT AT ONCE TURNING SKYWARD AND ERUPTING LIKE A VOMIT VOLCANO, ANSWER ME THAT.
Despite these behaviors, they both care for each other deeply, as Karkat is seen crying over his corpse when he is hit by the glub, blaming himself for not getting him in the game soon enough.
However, when speaking to Aradia Megido, a troll who he was very close to (exactly what kind of relationship they were in is undisclosed), despite growing apart from her a lot due to the consequences of a very big cycle of revenge (Not to go into much detail, another troll, Vriska, utilized her mind control powers to take over Sollux's mind, and seized the opportunity to have him kill her, as shown
here), his approach is a tad nicer than with Karkat, although her vague, unemotional speech pattern (due to her post-death status) quickly irritates him to the point of cranking out terrible, rude jokes about her apparent lack of emotion and happiness (she's ok with it though), such as:
TA: thank you 2o much for thii2, iit wa2 great.
TA: that wa2 a joke, here type "ha". AA: ha TA: now type iit agaiin. AA: ha TA: there you go, you are now offiiciially the liife of the party.
TA: eheheh ii ju2t took an embarra22iing viideo of you cuttiing loo2e there, boy ii 2ure hope thii2 juiicy nugget doe2nt wiind up on the iinternet! He shows that even after the accident, he still likes Aradia very much and is less rude (although still quite a bit) toward her than other characters.
Another example of him showing a more positive attitude toward another character is when he meets Feferi Peixes, the ex-heiress to the Alternian Ampire, which has been destroyed due to Sgrub and the vast glub caused by her own lusus. She is giddy and permanently excited, traits which seemed to catch his attention, maybe because it made him remember Aradia before she died, or maybe because a nice, cheery attitude is something that makes him feel comfortable. Once in the veil, he questions how she can put up with someone so terrible as himself and that she was too good for him , which is an example of his self deprecating nature.
She appears to have accompanied him throughout their session, as seen in
make her pay. In the very same flash, he can be seen dueling Eridan, a thing that seems to be recurring throughout their game session. Eridan is a romantically desperate troll, always flirting (and failing) with almost all other trolls, and is presumably jealous of Sollux, because, you see, Eridan and Feferi have known each other for presumably their whole lives, and Eridan has developed red feelings toward her.
Red feelings, you ask? You see, troll romance, unlike ours, can be represented in four different quadrants: Matespritship, the red quadrant, represented by the Hearts symbol, is the closest one to human romance. Moirallegiance, the pale quadrant, represented by the Diamonds symbol, and refers to the very close relation between two trolls that could be considered soul mates, that complete each other and balance each other in a way to benefit both. Kismesitude, the black quadrant, represented by the Spades symbol, and is alike human romance, however, it is based on hate rather than love. And finally, Auspisticism, the ashen quadrant, represented by the Clubs symbol, works as a regulator for kismesitudes by the form of a third party, because, you see, the troll race is a violent one, and therefore, black infidelity will quickly propagate if not for a third party to regulate between the two trolls, the auspistice.
While they were in the veil, Aradiabot exploded (In short, aradiabot was a gift from another troll to the deceased Aradia, albeit with secondary intentions, that her soul inhabited and controlled. It exploded when her dream self ascended to the god tiers, thus relocating her soul.), Sollux began feeling more down and depressed than usual, especially so because Aradia didn't speak a word to him throughout the session, and hugged him and said goodbye before exploding, leaving him in tears. After this, Feferi was there to help him, and they both had a rather big feelings jam on the horn pile. It is during this feelings jam that Eridan interrupts them, asking Feferi to join him to serve under Jack Noir, which she refuses, and reaches a consensus with Sollux that they have to stop him.
Making a bit of a trip to the past to understand their romantic situation, Eridan had an established Moirallegiance with Feferi, however, he also had red feelings for her. However, he turned bitter after she broke off the moirallegiance with him on account of him being a very high maintenance moirail, but she assured him she still liked him a bunch as a friend, just as he was about to declare his true feelings for her. Seeing Feferi and Sollux about to form a stable red relationship, he tried to intervene and spark a rivalry with Sollux to begin a kismesitude, in order to get feferi to auspistise, thus pulling them out of their quadrant.
This, however, was not successful, although he and sollux ended up dueling anyway. It is at this point that Sollux is blinded by Eridan, due to his overwhelming new powers, and it is right before this confrontation that i am taking him from canon. After the duel, his mood changes in a completely drastic manner (which is why I'm taking him before this point, as I much prefer it), dropping the duality theme completely and posessing a cheerier and brighter attitude, mainly because the voices that plagued him are gone. A bit further into the plot, he sacrifices himself to get his team mates to safety, using the last of his powers to accelerate the meteor they are in towards a designated meeting point, and completely destroying himself in the process, which shows the extent of how much he cares about his loved ones.
Overall, Sollux is a grouchy kid with a lisp, almost constantly in a bad mood accompanied by even worse mood swings, but still cares deeply about his friends despite his flaws. His attitude changes vastly depending on who he is speaking/is with, and he enjoys his puns and metaphors as much as the next person.
First Person: [Sollux stepped out of the mysterious carriage, intent on finding out who was responsible for all this. It wasn't long until he noticed a small device in his hand, and began to fiddle around with it. It was shaped like a small pocketwatch, however, after a closer inspection, some buttons could be found on the sides, and opening it revealed a small screen.
He pressed one one of the buttons, which appeared to activate the contraption. Pressing another one made his reflection pop up on the small screen, and in an instant, he knew he was being recorded. He takes a deep breath as he prepares to do what he believes is the most logical course of action for the situation.]
listen here, you inconsiderate knucklesponged assholes, i dont know exactly what the fuck it is you're trying to pull here, but you can damn well believe i'm going two fuck your shit up, and im going two do it in so many different ways, ill have two pull off so much trippy shit youre going two WISH you were never FUCKING HATCHED.[He takes some seconds to catch his breath, and to clean off all the spit that he accidentally covered the screen with while yelling at it. His angered speech is barely understandeable due to his lisp, and ultimately it just sounds like one big raspberry.]
i am going two bury you so deep in the fecal matter of a wildly incontinent musclebeast when i find you, and you better not be all doubting me about it, or ill make you regret it.Third Person: Sollux was out cold, draped in the benches of a certain train carriage. He only began coming to himself when the first rays of the sun hit his face. Startled, he moved himself from the spot as far as he could, and sought a place to be safe from the sunlight, for in his experience, sunlight burned, and burned hard, which is why he would try to avoid it at all cost. After his heart had stopped racing and he came to, he looked around and figured that he wasn't in the horn pile with Feferi anymore. Eyes moving quickly and a drop of sweat running down his face, he desperately tried to recognize where he was, but to no avail. He did not know where he was, or why he was there. Perhaps he had fallen asleep? No, this was too real to be a dream, this was where he presently stood. He was completely lost in this situation, wondering what could have gone wrong. Was it a glitch within the game? No, he programed it himself, there's no way he would allow such a moronic mistake to go by. Confusion quickly turned to anger as he started flipping his bifurcated lid. Just where was he, and most importantly, where was SHE? Maybe she was transported here alongside with him? He gave his surroundings a good look, but no, Feferi wasn't there, and neither were his friends. However, something was. He couldn't put his finger on it, but he could feel something there, something lingering, something observing him.
"
WHERE ARE YOU?!" - he suddenly exclaimed, angered at his situation, and angered at the voices in his head, who spent all his life telling him snippets of the future but failed to show any signs anything of this nature would happen.
"
SHOW YOURSELF!" - screamed Sollux at the top of his lungs, invaded by an immense feeling of frustration, as he failed to stay calm in light of this mysterious event. Was all he had done so far for nothing? Were all his teammates dead? Was HE dead?
He couldn't contain himself further, if they were going to hold him there without answers, he wasn't going to hold back either.
His hands began flashing those oh so familiar blue and red tones that had accompanied him his entire life, and he was ready to blast the carriage into oblivion, until suddenly, the sunlight faded. Surprised at seeing some change for once, he calmed himself down and looked outside the window, and saw only fog. Relieved at the fact the sunlight had backed off, he sat down and let his mind go blank. He wasn't ready to process all of this, and there was nothing he could have done to prepare himself. He didn't even want to know what fate had in store for him, but he was sure it wasn't going to be pretty. He cursed as he settled down, and began to breathe deeply and allow himself to think. If there was one thing he was sure of, is that he's going to see where this train is going, and he wasn't planning on letting whoever was responsible for this walk away freely. Determined to get some answers, he watched as the train arrived at its destination, and besides feeling compelled by who knows what to walk out of the carriage, he had some unfinished business to take care of, and he intended in seeing it through.
